Changes to Inspection of Adult Care Services

In October 2014 the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are changing the way they carry out inspections which the Chief Inspector of Adult Social Services, Andrea Sutcliffe, hopes will be more effective and personalised, and help to raise standards across the sector. The inspection will look at 5 areas i.e. whether the service is:

  • safe
  • effective
  • caring
  • responsive to peoples’ needs
  • well led

Following an inspection the service will receive a rating of outstanding, good, requires improvement or is inadequate against each of the 5 key areas above as well as an overall rating.

The CQC plan to focus their attention on those services which are failing to meet required quality standards and the frequency of inspections will reflect this.
