Our care home in Wallsend
Our model of care delivers the best dementia care homes
Our dementia care home in Wallsend, North Tyneside is a completely unique development and must be viewed to understand the freedom and independence it offers to those living with dementia.
It is purpose-built for 64 residents and is located in a secluded spot just off Station Road, serving a wide area of the North East, with easy access to public transport and local amenities.
An environment created for specialist dementia care
There are five households (Hadrian, Hunter, Willington, Collingwood and Churchill House) with 13 large en-suite rooms in each, creating a home from home atmosphere where residents can feel comfortable, relaxed and safe.
There is always a lot of love and laughter in household living at Eothen, which is extended to friends and family who find support, compassion and companionship.
The households have a similar layout that are different in colour to enable the residents to recognise their own surroundings. Each household has a cosy lounge with a warm fire place and comfy sofas and is designed without long corridors, which provides a continuous feeling of freedom and space. This allows active residents to move freely and safely around the home without any restriction, which is so important for those living with dementia, enhancing their everyday lives and allowing them greater independence.
The kitchen/dining area is the hub of activity in each household where residents are able to cook, clean, and help with other household chores, meet for meals or join in activities, such as arts, crafts, reminiscing, singing, dancing and exercise which creates a warm and stimulating atmosphere.
We understand the importance of mealtimes and provide a flexible approach around the needs and abilities of our residents. Our staff promote choice and involvement and work tirelessly to ensure meal times are a central and enjoyable part of each day and we all sit down together to share the mealtime experience. Nutritious meals are prepared in the main kitchen and served in each household. Our experienced Chefs are fully trained and understand the importance of presenting and serving food to residents living with dementia.
Our gardens have special reminiscence areas, such as an old-style car and touring caravan to help evoke memories of holidays and fun times. We also have a beautiful aviary and indoor atrium for residents to enjoy when the weather is not so good.
